  1. The issue is not whether Fr. Cutie is going to leave the Church as the questioner said at the end of the interview, but whether he would be dispensed from his vows or promises and leave the priesthood. It appears that Fr. Cutie is an otherwise faithful Catholic who has sinned. That is more or less what he said in the interview, and as Father said - he believes in celibacy for priests.

  2. I have decided to enter the Catholic priesthood. While the call to celibacy is not an easy component, I have chosen this path primarily because I believe God has chosen me and has given me the grace to live a chaste celibate life. That is not to say that there will not be struggles and temptations, but that God's grace is perfected in weakness. I would contest that changing the rule of celibacy would not be a positive decision, for it is priestly celibacy that allows these men to demonstrate sacrificial love and lay down their lives for the sheep.

  3. I commend Father Cutie for handling the interview well. He has obviously sinned against his commitment to priestly celibacy, but he should not have been asked if he would leave the Catholic Church. Leaving the priesthood through dispensation is not leaving the Church. If Rome grants him laicization he can serve the Church well in the future as a married layman.

  4. Oops. I see Fr. Cutie has actually left for the Anglican Church - the Church which countenanced the beheading of St. Thomas More. My message above was mistaken. I am sorry ....
