Nancy Pelosi: "500 Million American Will Lose Their Job"; Really Madame Speaker?

"Every month we do not have an economic recovery package 500,000,000 Americans will lose their jobs. I don't think we can move fast enough." -- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi

500,000,000 (5oo million)? Wow, Nancy this is really bad! That's about 67% more people than actually live in America!

What is she saying? Every American is going to be fired 1.67 times a month?

I guess we now know why the Congressional Radical Anti-American Pork (CRAAP) Act is so over-inflated!

Speaker Pelosi isn't good at math. Maybe instead of 800,000,000,000 she really meant 8,000,000.

  1. There are 305,741,461 people in the United States of America. If everyone in the U.S. lined up single file, the line would stretch around the Earth almost 7 times. That's a lot of people.

The U.S. Census Bureau statistics tell us that there are at least 88,799 different last names and 5,163 different first names in common use in the United States. Some names are more common than others.

There are 50,489 people named John Smith in the United States. There are 1,068 people named James Bond, 115 people named Harry Potter , 513 people named George Bush, and 32 people named Emily Dickinson. However, Johnny Cash (39 people) songs aside there are, statistically speaking, very few boys named Sue.
