There were many Bush Derangement Media Moments today where mainstream media could not hold back from bashing the ex-President, but Tom Brokaw's lack of professionalism stands out. Not because of the words -- we already know President Obama gives NBC a "tingle" -- but because Mr. Brokaw is supposed to be the elder statesman of balanced reporting.
First, he compared Dick Cheney to Dr. Strangelove.
It's unfortunate for Vice President Cheney to have had this accident obviously, because there will be those who don't like him, who will be writing tomorrow that he had a Dr. Strangelove appearance as he appeared today in his wheelchair. It's not something he’ll be happy about going out in a wheelchair because he prides himself on his robustness.
For those who don't know the film...
The story concerns a mentally unstable US Air Force general who orders a first strike nuclear attack on the Soviet Union, and follows the President of the United States, his advisors, the Joint Chiefs of Staff and a Royal Air Force (RAF) officer as they try to recall the bombers to prevent a nuclear apocalypse, as well as the crew of one B-52 as they attempt to deliver their payload.
(For the record, Tom, no one would have been making that comparison had you not brought it up yourself. THAT will be the story!)
Then he compared the Obama Inauguration to the fall of communism in Czechoslovakia.
You know what it reminds me of? It reminds me of the Velvet Revolution. I was in Prague when that happened. And Vaclev Havel was a generational leader and was in the square in Prague and the streets were filled with joy. And we're not overthrowing a communist regime here, obviously, but an unpopular president is leaving and people have been waiting for this moment. And there's that same sense of joyfulness and possibility even though, as in Czechoslovakia, they had enormous problems and we do as well.
Just let him go! Let him walk off into the Texas sunset!

Brokaw is a fellow conservative if you did not know that. There are plenty of conservatives that were not fans of Bush and Cheney.
ReplyDeleteEven though he is a NBC employee he is red thru and thru.
Not sure if you were lumping him up with the liberal media.
If he were a true conservative he would not dare disrespect Bush and Cheney FOR KEEPING AMERICA SAFE!
ReplyDeleteYou are wrong, sir.
If you consider Tom Brokaw to be a conservative then I suppose you conider MSNBC to be fair and balanced as well.
Keep your dreams of hope and change alive, you'll see.
You'll see.
I think Cheney looked alot more like Mr Potter from Its a Wonderful Life than Dr strangelove.
ReplyDeleteBrokow is part of McCain's base though I think he does fall somewhere well in the Middle of Hannity & Olbermann.
I think we all fall somewhere in between Hannity and Olbermann! It's hard to imagine anyone more extreme.... maybe Rachel Maddow!
