GOP Rep. Grills Eric Holder: "Hate Crime For Preachers Who Preach Against Gays?" (Video)

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) discusses Hate Crime laws with Attorney General Eric Holder.

The law in question is 18 U.S.C. 2 which states:

(a) Whoever commits an offense against the United States or aids,
abets, counsels, commands, induces or procures its commission, is
punishable as a principal.

(b) Whoever willfully causes an act to be done which if directly
performed by him or another would be an offense against the United
States, is punishable as a principal.

The key legal phrase Gohmert argues is "induces". A preacher's sermon could be considered as an "inducement" of a crime.

  2. More PC madness. We do not need to catagorize crime as hate crime. Where do you draw the line?

  5. All acts of physical violence by a person or group of persons against another is a hate crime. Why should we give any person a higher right not to be hated than any other? Everyone has the right not to be persecuted because of who they are, regardless of what that characteristic or belief may be.

  6. Any more irrelevant laws, policies or investigations to focus on while current laws, policies and investigations bankrupt our economy, take over our industries and make a laughingstock of our great country in a push to make us more popular? The only apology ever needed is to we the people for this show of incompetence and lack of insight and perspective. Sheesh.

  8. Holder's comment, "hateful things about someone's sexual orientation" shows his intention. If he can characterize something that the Bible calls an "abomination" as "hateful" then - the Rep. is exactly right to suppose that this law would be used to go after preachers.

  9. Read the Bible. It is the ONLY Book for life. GOD wrote it and you will live by it. If you don't, so be it. DO NOT CONVICT US CHRISTIANS BECAUSE YOU DON'T BELIEVE IN THE BOOK!

  13. Since Mr. Gohmert lives in a neighboring County, a Conservative and defender of the right, I have complete admiration in his debate with the A.G; however, I need to enlighten the masses re Christians or Preachers "hating" homosexuals (lesbians, murderers, rapists, liars, etal). Christians hate the ACTS, not the individuals-comprende?

  14. Read Romans Chapter 1 (KJV Bible) States the Truth, states a Fact. Whether you like it or not, or accept it or not; Those that hate the Bible and what it says, Hate God also. Should we not also put those that hate God on trial too?
