A heretofore "unknown" 2004 interview with Barack Obama by leftwing radio host Randi Rhodes has just emerged.
Really? Anyone surprised by this? WTF?!?!?! Obama is pissed that there was "no real debate"? Are you kidding me?
Newsbusters reports:
Hypocrisy alert!
A heretofore "unknown" 2004 interview with Barack Obama by leftwing radio host Randi Rhodes has just emerged. And basically, as you shall hear, Obama is saying do as I say, not as I do. In this case he was referring to quickly forcing legislation through congress. As you can hear in this interview, uncovered by Naked Emporer News, the hypocrisy seems so massive that it is destined to go viral on the Web. It features Randi Rhodes back during her Air America days interviewing then senator-elect Barack Obama on November 22, 2004. And despite the fact that Randi is currently pretty well hidden from public view, you can be sure she will soon be talked about again because of her inadvertent exposure of incredible hypocrisy on the part of Obama. And what was the hypocrisy? His complaint that the Bush administration was rushing legislation through congress without giving the legislators time to read the bills or allowing for much debate.
To get the full flavor of the Obama hypocrisy, be sure to listen to the YouTube clip which also includes a video of MSNBC's Chuck Todd discussing why Rahm Emanuel felt the need to Rahm, I mean ram, legislation through congress. Here is the transcript which picks up at the 55 second mark:
BARACK OBAMA: ...When you rush these budgets that are a foot high and nobody has any idea what's in them and nobody has read them.
RANDI RHODES: 14 pounds it was!
BARACK OBAMA: Yeah. And it gets rushed through without any clear deliberation or debate then these kinds of things happen. And I think that this is in some ways what happened to the Patriot Act. I mean you remember that there was no real debate about that. It was so quick after 9/11 that it was introduced that people felt very intimidated by the administration.
The YouTube clip then segues to comments made last March by Chuck Todd of MSNBC describing Rahm Emanuel's rationale for rushing legislation through congress:
CHUCK TODD: And a few things that I feel like that I've picked up from these guys. Number one is that they are very aware. Rahm Emanuel is Chief of staff...had experience in the Clinton White House. And he is trying to learn every lesson from those days of Clinton and apply it to Obama. So number one is, don't deal with just one big issue. One of the reasons why, for instance, they thought health care went down is you had one issue sitting out there when Hillary Clinton introduced it. We all focused on it in the media. And the opposition got to organize and stop it. And you can kill anything in this town if you set an idea out here long enough and give the opposition time to organize and stop something. And I don't care which side of the aisle you're on. You can kill anything in Washington doing that. And I think they're attacking it this way: saying we're going to push 3 or 4 different things. Because they believe the opposition won't have time to unite and kill all of it.
So kudos to Randi Rhodes for exposing the massive hypocrisy of one Barack Obama although she wasn't aware of it at the time. And why is it that it is once a blog, and not the MSM, that has dug up this very revealing interview?
Hannity has been saying this for months; the "saved or created" thing is a total joke. Joe Biden recently said we "created 150,000 jobs." It's total BS as unemployment rates continue to rise. Talk about your "fuzzy math."
The Wall Street Journal reports:
Tony Fratto is envious.
Mr. Fratto was a colleague of mine in the Bush administration, and as a senior member of the White House communications shop, he knows just how difficult it can be to deal with a press corps skeptical about presidential economic claims. It now appears, however, that Mr. Fratto's problem was that he simply lacked the magic words -- jobs "saved or created."
"Saved or created" has become the signature phrase for Barack Obama as he describes what his stimulus is doing for American jobs. His latest invocation came yesterday, when the president declared that the stimulus had already saved or created at least 150,000 American jobs -- and announced he was ramping up some of the stimulus spending so he could "save or create" an additional 600,000 jobs this summer. These numbers come in the context of an earlier Obama promise that his recovery plan will "save or create three to four million jobs over the next two years."
The president should 'save or create' more jobs in Cleveland.
Mr. Fratto sees a double standard at play. "We would never have used a formula like 'save or create,'" he tells me. "To begin with, the number is pure fiction -- the administration has no way to measure how many jobs are actually being 'saved.' And if we had tried to use something this flimsy, the press would never have let us get away with it."
Of course, the inability to measure Mr. Obama's jobs formula is part of its attraction. Never mind that no one -- not the Labor Department, not the Treasury, not the Bureau of Labor Statistics -- actually measures "jobs saved." As the New York Times delicately reports, Mr. Obama's jobs claims are "based on macroeconomic estimates, not an actual counting of jobs." Nice work if you can get away with it.
And get away with it he has. However dubious it may be as an economic measure, as a political formula "save or create" allows the president to invoke numbers that convey an illusion of precision. Harvard economist and former Bush economic adviser Greg Mankiw calls it a "non-measurable metric." And on his blog, he acknowledges the political attraction.
"The expression 'create or save,' which has been used regularly by the President and his economic team, is an act of political genius," writes Mr. Mankiw. "You can measure how many jobs are created between two points in time. But there is no way to measure how many jobs are saved. Even if things get much, much worse, the President can say that there would have been 4 million fewer jobs without the stimulus."
Mr. Obama's comments yesterday are a perfect illustration of just such a claim. In the months since Congress approved the stimulus, our economy has lost nearly 1.6 million jobs and unemployment has hit 9.4%. Invoke the magic words, however, and -- presto! -- you have the president claiming he has "saved or created" 150,000 jobs. It all makes for a much nicer spin, and helps you forget this is the same team that only a few months ago promised us that passing the stimulus would prevent unemployment from rising over 8%.
It's not only former Bush staffers such as Messrs. Fratto and Mankiw who have noted the political convenience here. During a March hearing of the Senate Finance Committee, Chairman Max Baucus challenged Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner on the formula.
"You created a situation where you cannot be wrong," said the Montana Democrat. "If the economy loses two million jobs over the next few years, you can say yes, but it would've lost 5.5 million jobs. If we create a million jobs, you can say, well, it would have lost 2.5 million jobs. You've given yourself complete leverage where you cannot be wrong, because you can take any scenario and make yourself look correct."
Now, something's wrong when the president invokes a formula that makes it impossible for him to be wrong and it goes largely unchallenged. It's true that almost any government spending will create some jobs and save others. But as Milton Friedman once pointed out, that doesn't tell you much: The government, after all, can create jobs by hiring people to dig holes and fill them in.
If the "saved or created" formula looks brilliant, it's only because Mr. Obama and his team are not being called on their claims. And don't expect much to change. So long as the news continues to repeat the administration's line that the stimulus has already "saved or created" 150,000 jobs over a time period when the U.S. economy suffered an overall job loss 10 times that number, the White House would be insane to give up a formula that allows them to spin job losses into jobs saved.
"You would think that any self-respecting White House press corps would show some of the same skepticism toward President Obama's jobs claims that they did toward President Bush's tax cuts," says Mr. Fratto. "But I'm still waiting."
Hell has officially frozen over... CNN calls out MS NBC and Chuck Schumer?
What world are we living in?
The Democratic party is collapsing from within. Glorious.
I saw Blue! And it was glorious!
What? She has officially fallen off the deep end! She can't even keep track of her own lies any longer!
Yesterday, during her press conference she accused the CIA of lying to Congress:
QUESTION: Madam Speaker, just to be clear, you're accusing the CIA of lying to you in September of 2002?
PELOSI: Yes, misleading the Congress of the United States, misleading the Congress of the United States. I am.
She also said, "They do it all the time."
But, that was yesterday.
Today she said she was talking about the Bush Administration, not the CIA.
Say what? Sign the petition to impeach Nancy Pelosi!
It is a US Senate race to savour, pitting a porn star named Stormy — the proud winner of the 2007 Golden G-string award — against a Christian family-values Republican shamed after being caught cavorting with prostitutes.
In these gloomy days of global recession and soaring unemployment, the Louisiana Senate race is brightening the lives of many, courtesy of Stormy Daniels, who set off on a “listening tour” of her home state yesterday, taking on David Vitter, the Republican senator, with the slogan: “Stormy Daniels: Screwing People Honestly”.
Ms Daniels says that she is running in response to an internet campaign called Draft Stormy that she claims has got people even more excited than viewers of her hit films Space Nuts and Taken. Whatever the outcome, her decision to thrust her 36-inch chest into Louisiana politics is dragging Mr Vitter’s 2007 prostitution scandal back into the limelight.
“He ran for the Senate on a family values, anti-sex education platform,” Ms Daniels told The Times. “And he’s caught with prostitutes. That’s hypocritical. Call me what you will, but you can’t call me a hypocrite.”
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said last month that she was briefed on waterboarding and enhanced interrogation techniques, but was unaware that the CIA actually used them.
As far as I'm concerned, any member of congress who blatantly lies about national security and intelligence should be impeached, if not tried for treason!
Sign the petition to impeach Nancy Pelosi!
Human Events reports:
She knew from the beginning. According to a CIA document compiled by the Director of National Intelligence summarizing briefings to Congress on the use of enhanced interrogation techniques on terrorist detainees, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Ca) knew from the very beginning that those techniques -- including waterboarding -- were being used on September 4, 2002.
According to the memo the very first briefing listed is 9/4/02 with then Rep. Porter Goss & Pelosi. The summary of the briefing says:
“Briefing on EITs including use of EITs on Abu Zubaydah, background on authorities, and a description of the particular EITs that had been employed.”
This directly contradicts Pelosi’s story, that “we were not told that waterboarding or any of these other enhanced interrogation methods were used.”
As HUMAN EVENTS reported earlier, Pelosi - by objecting to the use of the enhanced interrogation techniques - could have stopped them but didn't.
Pelosi's misstatements were apparently intended to divert attention from her and other Democrats in Congress who knew of all the enhanced interrogation methods -- in detail -- apparently as soon as they were being used.
Chris Matthews and Richard Haass, former advisor to Secretary of State Colin Powell and author of "War of Necessity, War of Choice" discuss the War in Iraq.
Again, Liberal Matthews is the one manipulating the evidence. Did we ever find weapons of mass destruction? No. Did Democrats view the same intelligence as the White House and approve military force in Iraq? Yes.
Haass, like his former boss Powell, is a sellout and a joke and a traitorous fool. Richard is truly an (haa)ass.
"It's a big freaking question, because it got us 5000 killed," says Matthews.
In his book, "The Good Fight: Hard Lessons From Searchlight to Washington" , Sen. Harry Reid said Arlen Specter "is always with us when we don't need him."
However, he recently contradicted himself , saying "I hope he's going to be with us when we need him."
He lies further, saying that despite having a 60 Vote "super majority", the Senate still has to work in a bipartisan manner. There you go again, Senator!
During his staged speech in front of drooling media sycophants, aka press conference, President Obama was asked about his involvement in rescuing the auto industry and he responded: "We Don't Like Meddling In the Private Sector".
He also says he doesn't want to grow government!
Hahahahahahaha! Wow, what a jokester! Seriously, who does he thing he's kidding?
Karl Rove disputes Biden's claim that he schooled President Bush. "You should not exaggerate and lie like this when you are Vice President of the United States."
"It's a made up fictional world he ought to get out of it and get back to reality," says Rove.
Good Grief! Who is vetting these people? Seriously? Another Obama failure. Can you say "free fall"?
Remember: A tax cheat was confirmed, the tax cheat hired a lobbyist and violated the ethics rule, another lobbyist was hired that violated the ethics rule, a tax cheat withdrew her nomination, another tax cheat withdrew his nomination. Then a nominee violated House ethics rules and is married to a tax cheat. Then another tax cheat was nominated! Then another nominee withdrew over skeletons in the closet.... now this?
"Unintentional errors" -- another "hiccup"! Gimme a freaking break!
From Breitbart:
WASHINGTON (AP) - Health and Human Services nominee Kathleen Sebelius recently corrected three years of tax returns and paid more than $7,000 in back taxes after finding "unintentional errors"—the latest tax troubles for an Obama administration nominee.
The Kansas governor explained the changes to senators in a letter dated Tuesday that the administration released. She said they involved charitable contributions, the sale of a home and business expenses.
Sebelius said she filed the amended returns as soon as the errors were discovered by an accountant she hired to scrub her taxes in preparation for her confirmation hearings. She and her husband, Gary, a federal magistrate judge in Kansas, paid a total of $7,040 in back taxes and $878 in interest to amend returns from 2005-2007.
Wait a minute, I thought they didn't know about these bonuses until March 5th?
So, he lied? The tax cheat lied? No way!?
The bonus contracts were written in March of last year and included a provision that required most bonuses to amount to 100 percent of their 2007 bonuses.
Are we to believe that this was not known when Tim Geithner brokered the AIG bailout last fall?
No wonder people are calling for his resignation!
Not only is Wonder Boy Geithner naive and incompetent, he is dishonest!
POLITICO reports:
Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner acknowledged Thursday that his department asked Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) to insert language in a stimulus bill that would ensure AIG workers would get their bonuses.
Already under fire for his handling of the issue, Geithner said Treasury officials spoke with Dodd about a provision to the economic stimulus bill that would protect the AIG bonuses, because government officials were concerned about lawsuits from AIG employees.
“But we also worked with him to strengthen the overall framework,” Geithner said. “And his bill has this very important provision we’re relying on now to go back and see if we can recoup payments that were made that there was no legal ability to block.”
Dodd said this week that he inserted the bonus provision after a Treasury official asked for it. He refused to name who at Treasury made the request – and Geithner also refused to name names, but indicated that it was not him personally.
“I did have with other officials some conversations with Chairman Dodd as he was going through this process, but other provisions,” Geithner told CNN’s Ali Velshi.
What the hell is this? Amidst a recession a sitting President is capitalizing on his office?
I call for a full boycott of this book! F You Obama you disgusting Socialist pig! Screw you! I've had it with you!
No more Mr. NiceGuy! I officially will no longer take anything you say seriously! Who the hell do you think you are!!!!!! You disgust me!
You are no longer my President!
Washington Times Exclusive:
As he empathized with recession-weary Americans, President Obama arranged in the days just before he took office to secure a $500,000 advance for a children's book project, a disclosure report shows.
The terms of the book deal were disclosed in a Senate financial disclosure report filed Tuesday.
Analysts say there don't appear to be any rules that would bar such transactions after a president takes office, but it's unclear whether an incoming or sitting president has ever signed a book deal upon entering the White House.
"I don't recall any sitting president entering into a book deal," said campaign finance lawyer Jan Baran, former general counsel to the Republican National Committee. "They all have historically done that after they leave office."I recall the only ones who did sign book deals while living there were first ladies, and my recollection is they gave it to charity."
Mr. Obama approved the $500,000 advance on Jan. 15. The advance is against royalties under a deal with Crown Publishing, a division of Random House. The project calls for an abridged version of his book "Dreams From My Father" for middle-school-aged children, according to the disclosure.
Here's another freaking shock! No sh*t Chris! We all knew this! Thanks for fessing up, buddy! You freaking liar!
The funny part here is that Dodd claims the White House and Treasury Department forced him into this.
It's amazing that Dodd is taking a bullet for Tim Geithner who will probably be out of a job soon.
Libs fighting libs! This is great! It's all coming undone day by day!
Light the fire, open the marshmallows and watch Hopenchange burn!
The Communist News Network reports:
(CNN) -- Senate Banking committee Chairman Christopher Dodd told CNN Wednesday that he was responsible for language added to the federal stimulus bill to make sure that already-existing contracts for bonuses at companies receiving federal bailout money were honored.
Sen. Chris Dodd, D-Connecticut, appears on CNN's "The Situation Room" on Wednesday.
Dodd acknowledged his role in the change after a Treasury Department official told CNN the administration pushed for the language. Both Dodd and the official, who asked not to be named, said it was because administration officials were afraid the government would face numerous lawsuits without the new language.
Dodd, a Democrat, told CNN's Dana Bash and Wolf Blitzer that Obama administration officials pushed for the language to an amendment designed to limit bonuses and "golden parachutes" at those companies.
"The administration had expressed reservations," Dodd said. "They asked for modifications. The alternative was losing the amendment entirely."
On Tuesday, Dodd denied to CNN that he had anything to do with adding the language, which has been used by officials at bailed-out insurance giant AIG to justify paying millions of dollars in bonuses to executives after receiving federal money.
He said Wednesday that the "grandfather clause" language "seemed like innocent modifications" at the time. "I agreed reluctantly," Dodd said. "I was changing the amendment because others were insistent."
Dodd said he did not speak to high-ranking administration officials and the change came after his staff spoke with staffers from Treasury.
I demand that someone be fired over the AIG bonus "scandal"!
And it's not anyone who works for the company.
Tim Geithner needs to go!
Team "O" wants us to believe that they did not know about the AIG bonuses until two weeks ago, March 5th.
This is all a big fat fu*king lie! Who are they trying to kid? Seriously!
This is preposterous that President Obama is blasting AIG and his "outrage" is creating chaos!
Chris Dodd knew about it when he secretly placed an amendment into the CRAPUulus Socialism Bill over a month ago? Did no one bother to read it?
Oh wait, they didn't! President Obama signed the bill! Are you telling me that neither he nor anyone on his staff read the bill?
Our President is either a bold-face liar or an incompetent fool! We have a President who is not understanding what he is signing? How dangerous is that!
The bonus contracts were written in March of last year and included a provision that required most bonuses to amount to 100 percent of their 2007 bonuses.
Are we to believe that this was not known when Tim Geithner brokered the AIG bailout last fall?
I don't care if Geithner is under-staffed or not! If you can't stand the heat, get out! This is bullsh*t and I'm sick of the incompetance of this administratio so far.
Jake Tapper reports on the AIG timetable:
Sources in the Obama administration Tuesday said that despite previous media reports administration officials did not know until a couple weeks ago that the officials of the controversial AIG Financial Product Division were set to receive $165 million in bonuses on March 13.It wasn't until Monday, March 5, 2009, administration sources told ABC News, that officials of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York informed officials of the Treasury Department of the full extent of the $165 million in bonuses pending for the controversial Financial Products Subsidiary.
This was three days after the Obama administration had already announced a new commitment of an additional $30 billion for AIG.Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner was alerted last Tuesday, March 10; he phoned AIG CEO Edward Liddy on Wednesday evening, March 11, to protest the bonuses, sources told ABC News.
On Thursday, March 12, Secretary Geithner informed a senior White House official about the controversy, aides passed the information on to President Obama later in the day.
How the Obama administration was caught flat-footed by this controversy dates back to last Fall, when the New York Federal Reserve Bank -- then run by Geithner -- stepped in to give AIG a high-interest loan for $85 billion to help prevent the company from going under -- which Lehman Brothers was doing at the time. As part of the deal, AIG CEO Hank Greenberg was replaced by the new CEO, Liddy. In late October, the $700 billion Troubled Assets Relief Program passed Congress, which includes rules about executive compensation but nothing about retention bonuses.
In November, the Fed and Treasury Department soon began pumping more money into AIG -- $40 billion, to take down the $85 billion credit facility set up by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
At this point, an Obama administration official says, Treasury officials generally became aware that AIG had put retention programs in place, but whom they were for and the extent of them were unknown. The New York Fed began studying the compensation policies on the books -- while also making efforts to save banks and rescue the economy. But by then Geithner's nomination was pending and he had recused himself from dealings with AIG.
Remember last month when President Obama used Caterpillar to help push the Radical American Socialist Experiment CRAPulus Spending Bill?
Remember he said "if Congress passes our plan, this company [Caterpillar] will be able to rehire some of the folks who were just laid off."
And then remember Jim Owens, CEO of Caterpillar refuted Obama's outright lie, saying, "I think realistically no. The truth is we're going to have more layoffs before we start hiring again"
From Breitbart:
I swear to God this White House if full of freaking amateurs in way over their heads!PITTSBURGH (AP) - Caterpillar Inc. on Tuesday announced plans to lay off more than 2,400 employees at five plants in Illinois, Indiana and Georgia as the heavy equipment maker continues to cut costs amid the global economic downturn.
Caterpillar, the world's largest maker of mining and construction equipment, has seen its sales wither as the sluggish world economy and credit crisis weaken demand for its products, used to build everything from houses to highways. The company had expanded dramatically in recent years, helped by a building boom in developing countries.
In response to the worsening conditions, Caterpillar in January announced job cuts that will ultimately eliminate 20,000 positions. It also said it would slash executive compensation by up to 50 percent and offer buyouts to about 25,000 U.S.-based employees. Caterpillar, which employs about 112,000 people worldwide, said it had imposed a global hiring freeze.
The Obama administration is highly critical over the recent AIG executive bonuses controversy. The administration is once again trying to blame the Bush Administration for its faulty bailout which enables AIG to pay out such bonuses using tax-payer funds.
Reality Check: Obama and his administration need to look in the mirror! Last fall, Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner not only consulted with then-Secretary Hank Paulson, it was Geithner, not Paulson, who put together the original rescue plan for the American International Group!
Bloomberg reports:
American International Group Inc., barraged by criticism on how it’s using $173 billion of taxpayer money, faces demands from President Barack Obama to rescind or repay $165 million in bonuses.
“It’s hard to understand how derivative traders at AIG warranted any bonuses, much less $165 million,” said Obama at the White House speech today. “How do they justify this outrage to the taxpayers who are keeping the company afloat?”
Mr. Geithner's involvement in several ultimately ill-fated efforts to buttress the American financial system is the very reason some Wall Street C.E.O.'s -- a number of whom spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of piquing the man who regulates them -- question whether he's up to the challenge.
''We have only two things to say about Tim Geithner, who we do not know: A.I.G. and Lehman Brothers,'' said Christopher Whalen of Institutional Risk Analytics. ''Throw in the Bear Stearns/Maiden Lane fiasco for good measure,'' he said.
''All of these 'rescues' are a disaster for the taxpayer, for the financial markets and also for the Federal Reserve System as an organization. Geithner, in our view, deserves retirement, not promotion.''
''He was in the room at every turn of the crisis,'' said another executive
who participated in several such confidential meetings with Mr. Geithner. ''You can look at that both ways.''
Behind the scenes, Mr. Geithner was the point person for weeks of sleep-deprived Bailout Weekends. It was Mr. Geithner, not Mr. Paulson, for example, who put together the original rescue plan for the American International Group.
And, of course, Mr. Geithner also oversaw and regulated an entire industry whose decline has delivered a further blow to an already weakened American economy. Under his watch, some of the biggest institutions that were the responsibility of the New York Fed -- Bear Stearns, Lehman Brothers, Merrill Lynch and most recently, Citigroup -- faltered. While he was one of the first regulators to smartly articulate the potential for an impending disaster, a number of observers question whether he went far enough to stop the calamity.
Noting that AIG has "received substantial sums" of federal aid from the federal government, Obama said he has asked Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner "to use that leverage and pursue every legal avenue to block these bonuses and make the American taxpayers whole."
