Rush Limbaugh & Glenn Beck on the Return of the "Fairness" Doctrine Through Obama's Communist FCC Czar (Video)

Obama's choice for FCC Czar, Marc Lloyd, is a self-avowed communist and censor of radio waves. The so-called FCC "Diversity Officer," Mark Lloyd is also an admirer of Hugo Chavez.

Beck has been showing all week how amazingly out of control and radical The Obama Administration really is. This clip is from Wednesday's show.

I don't think this is the "change" which was expected by the Obamabots.

Obama Is Lying! He Supports the Fairness Doctrine

A statement released by the Obama Campaign in June 2008. It stated, "Senator Obama does not support re-imposing the Fairness Doctrine on broadcasters. He considers this debate to be a distraction from the conversation we should be having about opening up airwaves and modern communications to as many diverse viewpoints as possible. That is why Senator Obama supports media-ownership caps, network neutrality, public broadcasting, as well as increasing minority ownership of broadcasting and print outlets."

Wait, isn't forcing "network neutrality" with government intervention, which is what this statement says he supports, exactly what the fairness doctrine is? Wouldn't that means he pretty much supports it?

Synopsis: Everthing Audio About Michael Savage Banned In England; Savage Slams Britian's Book Ban (Video)

Smith has done more harm to the British democratic system than any other person in history, the only thing that still shocks me about this awful woman is not her total disregard for democracy and her absolute arrogance but her lack of respect for the British people. This government is doing more to help the BNP get to power than any amount of canvassing done by the BNP. By the way Savage is a patriot who speaks the blatant truth, but even if you don't like him, you should fight for his right to speak openly and freely.

"For this lunatic Jacqui Smith, the Home Secretary of England, to link me up with skinheads who are killing people in Russia, to put me in (the same) league with mass murderers who kill Jews on buses is defamation. "I thought this was a joke or a mistake." He has a point. Jacqui Smith said the people who were banned were those whose views the country 'would not tolerate'. But who is she to make that decision? While it is the job of the Home Secretary to ensure the security and safety of the nation, it is not for her to decree what we should hear and to whom we should listen.

Don't be silent! Sign the petition to block government attacks on freedom of speech and freedom of the press.

Savage responded to World Net Daily:

Talk radio host Michael Savage is considering legal action against Britain's top homeland security official after she released today a list grouping him with terrorists and neo-Nazi murderers banned from entry because the government believes their views might provoke violence.

In a telephone interview with WND, Savage said he is still waiting to hear back from attorneys, but he noted Britain has very strict anti-defamation laws.

Home Secretary Jacqui Smith said she decided to publicize the list of 16 people banned since October to show the type of behavior Britain will not tolerate, according to U.K. news reports.

Savage's immediate reaction upon hearing the news was typically wry.

"Darn! And I was just planning a trip to England for their superior dental work and cuisine," he recalled thinking.

"Then it sank in," he told WND, "and I said, 'She said this is the kind of behavior we
won't tolerate? She's linking me with mass murderers who are in prison for killing Jewish children on buses? For my speech? The country where the Magna Carta was created?'"

Smith explained to Britain's GMTV that she believed it was "important that people understand the sorts of values and sorts of standards that we have here, the fact that it's a privilege to come and the sort of things that mean you won't be welcome in this country."

"Coming to this country is a privilege," she said. "If you can't live by the rules that we live by, the standards and the values that we live by, we should exclude you from this country and, what's more, now we will make public those people that we have excluded."

Savage said he wants top First Amendment attorneys to represent him "in a major international case."

"I want to sue the British home secretary for defamation," he said, "for linking me up with murderers because of my opinions, my writings, my speaking – none of which have advocated any violence, ever."

Savage said the last time he was in Britain was about 20 years ago, and he had no immediate plans to return.

The Independant reported yesterday:

Sixteen people banned from entering the UK were "named and shamed" by the Home Office today.

Home Secretary Jacqui Smith said she decided to make public the names of 16 people banned since October so others could better understand what sort of behaviour Britain was not prepared to tolerate.

The list includes hate preachers, anti-gay protesters and a far- right US talk show host.

"I think it's important that people understand the sorts of values and sorts of standards that we have here, the fact that it's a privilege to come and the sort of things that mean you won't be welcome in this country," Ms Smith told GMTV.

"Coming to this country is a privilege. If you can't live by the rules that we live by, the standards and the values that we live by, we should exclude you from this country and, what's more, now we will make public those people that we have excluded.

Censorship: Proposed Newspaper Bailout Will Lead To Totalitarian Government-run Media

Enough with the bailouts already! Stop rewarding failure! Let the free market run its course!

Advertising revenue is down because the product stinks!

But don't be fooled: by providing media outlets with government aid, the Fed will have control in the editorial content of these newspapers.

And if that doesn't frighten you, how does fascism and totalitarianism sound?

Because that is where this will lead. Government-run media.

All the great societies used this trick! the Soviet Union, Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy, Shōwa Japan, German Democratic Republic (East Germany), People's Republic of Hungary, Socialist Republic of Romania, People's Socialist Republic of Albania, Derg Ethiopia, People's Republic of China, Democratic Kampuchea, Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea), Communist Czechoslovakia, Saddam Hussein's Iraq, Hugo Chavez' Venezuela and other famous tyrannical regimes throughout the ages!

Forget the Fairness Doctrine; this takes the war on Free Speech down an entirely new slippery slope.

WASHINGTON (Reuters)

With many U.S. newspapers struggling to survive, a Democratic senator on Tuesday introduced a bill to help them by allowing newspaper companies to restructure as nonprofits with a variety of tax breaks.

"This may not be the optimal choice for some major newspapers or corporate media chains but it should be an option for many newspapers that are struggling to stay afloat," said Senator Benjamin Cardin.

A Cardin spokesman said the bill had yet to attract any co-sponsors, but had sparked plenty of interest within the media, which has seen plunging revenues and many journalist layoffs.

Cardin's Newspaper Revitalization Act would allow newspapers to operate as nonprofits for educational purposes under the U.S. tax code, giving them a similar status to public broadcasting companies.

Under this arrangement, newspapers would still be free to report on all issues, including political campaigns. But they would be prohibited from making political endorsements.

Advertising and subscription revenue would be tax exempt, and contributions to support news coverage or operations could be tax deductible.

Because newspaper profits have been falling in recent years, "no substantial loss of federal revenue" was expected under the legislation, Cardin's office said in a statement.

Cardin's office said his bill was aimed at preserving local and community newspapers, not conglomerates which may also own radio and TV stations. His bill would also let a non-profit buy newspapers owned by a conglomerate.

"We are losing our newspaper industry," Cardin said. "The economy has caused an immediate problem, but the business model for newspapers, based on circulation and advertising revenue, is broken, and that is a real tragedy for communities across the nation and for our democracy.

Newspaper subscriptions and advertising have shrunk dramatically in the past few years as Americans have turned more and more to the Internet or television for information.

In recent months, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, the Rocky Mountain News, the Baltimore Examiner and the San Francisco Chronicle have ceased daily publication or announced that they may have to stop publishing.

In December the Tribune Company, which owns a number of newspapers including The Baltimore Sun, The Chicago Tribune and The Los Angeles Times filed for bankruptcy protection.

Two newspaper chains, Gannett Co Inc and Advance Publications, on Monday announced employee furloughs. It will be the second furlough this year at Gannett.

Economy Silences Conservative Talk Radio In California

Who needs the Censorship Doctrine; the Socialists can just let the economy silence talk radio! Another reason they have no real interest in fixing the "crisis"!

The LA Times reports:

But for all the anti-tax swagger and the occasional stunts by personalities like KFI's John and Ken, the reality is that conservative talk radio in California is on the wane. The economy's downturn has depressed ad revenue at stations across the state, thinning the ranks of conservative broadcasters.

For that and other reasons, stations have dropped the shows of at least half a dozen radio personalities and scaled back others, in some cases replacing them with cheaper nationally syndicated programs.

Casualties include Mark Larson in San Diego, Larry Elder and John Ziegler in Los Angeles, Melanie Morgan in San Francisco, and Phil Cowen and Mark Williams in Sacramento.

Two of the biggest in the business, Roger Hedgecock in San Diego and Tom Sullivan in Sacramento, have switched to national shows, elevating President Obama above Schwarzenegger on their target lists.

Another influential Sacramento host, Eric Hogue, has lost the morning rush-hour show that served as a prime forum to gin up support for the recall of Gov. Gray Davis. Now he airs just an hour a day at lunchtime on KTKZ-AM (1380).

"It's lonely, it's quiet, and it's a shame," Hogue said of California's shrinking conservative radio world. "I think this state has lost a lot of benefit. I don't know if we can grow it back any time soon."

Hey! It's Just Like The U.S.! Chavez Declares War on Opposition Media in Venezuela

Any of this sound familiar? This is the exact same thing Our Dear Leader wants to do!

Totalitarianism is a concept used to describe political systems whereby a state regulates nearly every aspect of public and private life. Totalitarian regimes or movements maintain themselves in political power by means of an official all-embracing ideology and propaganda disseminated through the state-controlled mass media, a single party that controls the state, personality cults, control over the economy, regulation and restriction of free discussion and criticism, the use of mass surveillance, and widespread use of terror tactics.

You mess with the bull, you get the horns!

Fox News reports:

CARACAS, Venezuela — As politicians in the U.S. discuss bringing back the so-called Fairness Doctrine, which would compel radio and TV stations to present both sides of any controversial issue, the question in Venezuela is far more serious: whether there can be more than one side — Hugo Chavez's side — that gets aired about anything.

Addressing the nation on his weekly television show on Sunday, the Venezuelan president laid out plans for his next crusade, ordering his governors and mayors to draw up a "map of the media war" to determine which media are "in the hands of the oligarchy."

Chavez said that "if it weren't for the attack, the lies, manipulation and the exaggeration" of the private media networks, the Venezuelan government would have the support of at least 80 percent of the population. Recent polls have put Chavez's popularity at a little over 50 percent.

Nursing a sore throat, which doctors reportedly asked him to rest by not speaking too much, (Sunday's program lasted a mere five hours), the president told his red-clad audience that the media war is a daily conflict. "I beg you to stand up to this battle, all of you," he implored his followers.

Chavez frequently criticizes opposition-aligned television stations and newspapers, at times holding up copies of the papers during public addresses to ridicule articles that criticize him.

Alberto Federico Ravell, director of Globovisión, a TV channel that is critical of Chávez, said he was concerned about the future of free speech in Venezuela.

"When a president talks of a map such as this, it's nothing less than a means to attack anyone who is against him," Ravell said. "Independent media is the only window that the Venezuelan people have to see what is really happening in the country."

Democrats Vote Down Censorship Doctrine, Before They Voted To Censor Free Speech

As Sean Hannity has been predicting, they Congress will not reinstate the so-called "Fairness Doctrine". Instead, they have passed an amendment which may accomplish the same goals, without calling it the "Fairness Doctrine".

They have successfully back-doored censorship back into talk radio with Sen. Durbin's Amendment.

This cannot stand. We need to fight for this one. This needs to go The Supreme Court.

It not only stands against free-market enterprise, but violates our First Amendment right to free speech!

From Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC):

Today, at 2pm, the Senate will vote on two amendments with respect to the Fairness Doctrine.

The DeMint amendment (Broadcaster Freedom Act) would ban the Fairness Doctrine.

The amendment by Senator Dick Durbin (D-Illinois) would achieve the same goals of the Fairness Doctrine through backdoor FCC regulations. His legislation forces the FCC to “take actions to encourage and promote diversity in communication media ownership,” an attempt to dismantle successful syndicated radio programs.

The Durbin amendment would hurt small, local radio stations who depend on popular syndicated programming for listeners and revenue.

The Hill reported:

The Senate voted Thursday in favor of an amendment to the District of Columbia voting-rights bill that would prohibit the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) from reinstating the so-called Fairness Doctrine, which critics say would decimate conservative talk radio. The Senate passed the measure 87-11.

However, Democrats did pass the Durbin Amendment to restrict free speech- 57-41."Durbin Amdt. No. 591; To encourage and promote diversity in communication media ownership, and to ensure that the public airwaves are used in the public interest."

***

Sen. DeMint added this statement this afternoon.

“Today’s vote slammed the front door on the so-called ‘fairness doctrine,’ which threatens to censor free speech and shut down talk radio,” said Senator DeMint.

“When senators were forced to vote in the open on this issue, they were compelled to side with the American people.”

“Today was an important victory for free speech, but the fight is far from over. Senator Durbin’s amendment exposed Democrat intentions to impose radio censorship through the back door using vague regulations dealing with media ownership. Senator Durbin’s language was so broad, it could apply beyond radio to television, newspapers and the internet. All eyes are now on the FCC. If they attempt to shut down free speech indirectly, we will fight to stop them,” said Senator DeMint

“It was reassuring to see the Senate stand up for free speech today and reject this anti-American policy. However, I am troubled that as we killed the ‘Fairness Doctrine,’ Senator Durbin’s amendment brought to life a new threat to talk radio and other arenas of free speech. Senator DeMint and I, along with others, will continue to stand up to efforts to limit the expression of differing opinions and free speech on talk radio, TV, and the internet,” said Thune. “With such an overwhelming vote in the Senate, I hope the Democrat leadership in the House does not block this provision when they consider this legislation.”

Senator Inhofe said, “The overwhelming bi-partisan vote in support of the Broadcaster Freedom Act shows that the American people reject the idea of reinstating the fairness doctrine. As one of the most outspoken members in the Senate against re-instating the doctrine, I am pleased to have supported Senators DeMint and Thune in their effort. Today is a tremendous victory for free speech and the First Amendment, and while I am sure liberals will continue to look for another way to attack conservative radio, I will be standing with my colleagues to ensure that doesn’t happen.”

As reported by Broadcasting & Cable on 2/24/09, liberal activist groups believe breaking up media ownership is their next attempt to undermine successful conservative talk radio.

As radio host Rush Limbaugh wrote in the Wall Street Journal:

Mr. President, we both know that this new effort at regulating speech is not about diversity but conformity. It should be rejected. You've said you're against reinstating the Fairness Doctrine, but you've not made it clear where you stand on possible regulatory efforts to impose so-called local content, diversity-of-ownership, and public-interest rules that your FCC could issue.

"I do not favor content-based regulation of National Public Radio, newspapers, or broadcast or cable TV networks. I would encourage you not to allow your office to be misused to advance a political vendetta against certain broadcasters whose opinions are not shared by many in your party and ideologically liberal groups such as ACORN, the Center for American Progress, and MoveOn.org. There is no groundswell of support behind this movement. Indeed, there is a groundswell against it.”

Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) To Force Vote on Bill Banning Censorship "Fairness" Doctrine

Thank you Sen. Jim DeMint for defending my First Amendment Rights!

From Business and Media:

Although a spokesman for President Barack Obama said the administration wouldn’t pursue the revival of the Fairness Doctrine, Republican Sen. Jim DeMint, S.C., wants Senate Democrats to go on the record one way or another on the issue.

DeMint, chairman of the Senate Steering Committee, said on Feb. 19 he will offer the Broadcaster Freedom Act as an amendment to the D.C. Voting Rights bill next week. The Broadcaster Freedom Act was introduced by Republican lawmakers last month and prevents the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) from reinstating the Fairness Doctrine.

“I’m glad President Obama finally confirmed his opposition to the Fairness Doctrine, which attacks the right of free speech on talk radio, but many Democrats in Congress are still pushing it,” DeMint said. “With the support of the new administration, now is the time for Congress to take a stand against this kind of censorship. I intend to seek a vote on this amendment next week so every senator is on record: Do you support free speech or do you want to silence voices you disagree with?"

VIDEO: Fox News' Megyn Kelly Gives Bill Press An Economics Lesson; Schools Press on "Fairness Doctrine"

Liberal talk radio host Bill Press has spent a lot of his time lately advocating for the Censorship Doctrine.

First it was Sen. Debbie Stabenow and then it was Sen. Tom Harkin making appearances on his show, slobbering over their efforts to reinstate the Censorship Doctrine.

Well, today on Fox News, attorney and anchor Megyn Kelly debated Press and schooled him!

Well done Megyn. Press is so dead wrong and you proved it. Thank you.

News Busters reports on Press' real motivation:

I know why I'm interested in it because I get up every morning at 3:45, I do three hours of talk radio every day from six to nine, that's my life, it's my business, I want to make money at it, and I want to be heard.

Another hypocritical statement by a whacked-out Liberal. News for you Mr. Press, everyone in talk radio wants to make money and be heard. That's the point.

But our society does not function on "fairness", it functions on giving people a chance. The free market takes over from there. People make the choice to whom they wish to listen and radio host and radio stations make money from advertising accordingly.

It's Economic Darwinism, Mr. Press, survival of the fittest. Liberals struggle to grasp that concept in many facets as they want "fairness" and "balance".

What they want is socialism, bordering on communism; a society where everyone is exactly the same.

And there is nothing more UnAmerican than that.

Henry Waxman Wants Censorship ("Fariness") Doctrine Applied To Internet; Bloggers Beware

This one hits a little too close to home. This is directed at all of us! Every conservative blogger and every American interested in free speech.

Let's not be fooled here, this is not about "fairness" or "balance". This is clearly about censorship for political gain and to establish a permanent voting majority for the Totalitarian-ocrats.

Why do you suppose much of the rhetoric over the so-called "Fairness" Doctrine was suspended during last year's campaign? Because the Obama camp to so much mileage out of Huffington Post, Daily KOs, MoveOn.org and the like.

Like much of the Democrats' strategy: when we do it, it's okay, when Republicans do it, it's wrong.

From American Spectator:

Senior FCC staff working for acting Federal Communications Commissioner Michael Copps held meetings last week with policy and legislative advisers to House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Henry Waxman to discuss ways the committee can create openings for the FCC to put in place a form of the "Fairness Doctrine" without actually calling it such.

Waxman is also interested, say sources, in looking at how the Internet is being used for content and free speech purposes. "It's all about diversity in media," says a House Energy staffer, familiar with the meetings.

"Does one radio station or one station group control four of the five most powerful outlets in one community? Do four stations in one region carry Rush Limbaugh, and nothing else during the same time slot? Does one heavily trafficked Internet site present one side of an issue and not link to sites that present alternative views? These are some of the questions the chairman is thinking about right now, and we are going to have an FCC that will finally have the people in place to answer them."

Why can't Waxman and the other Liberal moonbats understand that it's free market economics. Radio stations are "free" to air any kind of programming they see fit in order turn a profit! God forbid we let companies make money to pay their employees!

And as far as the Internet!?!?! Is he serious? I'm allowed to say whatever I want! Just as the Liberals are allowed to bash George Bush, promote their radical socialist society, I am free to criticize the Obama administration.

One idea Waxman's committee staff is looking at is a congressionally mandated policy that would require all TV and radio stations to have in place "advisory boards" that would act as watchdogs to ensure "community needs and opinions" are given fair treatment.

What does he mean by "advisory boards"? Is that like Thought Police? And don't be fooled, by "community needs and opinions", Waxman means "Liberal opinions are the only ideas we want people to hear."

Also involved in "brainstorming" on "Fairness Doctrine and online monitoring has been the Center for American Progress, a liberal think tank, which has published studies pressing for the Fairness Doctrine, as well as the radical MoveOn.org, which has been speaking to committee staff about policies that would allow them to use their five to six million person database to mobilize complaints against radio, TV or online entities they perceive to be limiting free speech or limiting opinion.

And there you have it! Yes, they are going to use MoveOn.Organists, Obama's Army, Obama 2.0 to silence the views of opposition. Seriously.

This is frightening. This is a blatant attempt to violate your freedom of speech.

Please visit the MRC and sign the petition to stop the Fairness Doctrine.

Change: Crazy Liberal Moonbats Want "Domestic Terrorists" Republicans "Prosecuted", "Jailed", "Eliminated", and Killed "Painfully";

OHHH!!!! I get it!

THIS must be what Obama meant by change and the end of partisan politics! Eliminate the voice of opposition (aka: the voice of reason).

...voiced by those like Mike Malloy who called Republicans "domestic terrorists" and wants to prosecute them.

So what was the reaction to Malloy's intolerance by his fellow leftwingers?

Unfortunately, it was met by strong approval as one can see in this Democratic Underground thread titled, "Mike Malloy: The Republican Party Needs to be Eliminated." The posts on that thread go way beyond the mere castigation of Republicans and enter into the realm of primitive blood lust. Perhaps you will find it disturbing to read some of the psychotic posts but you ignore them at your own peril:

We must for the sake of the Country and the World, bring them down, expose them, vote them out and prosecute them and if necessary jail them. They must go now and asap.

a strategic hamlet program for republicans. they call themselves an insurgency, we need to use counterinsurgent tactics.

Eliminated with extreme prejudice. By any means necessary.

that party needs to die a swift, merciless, painful death.

You can see a more complete compendium of these DUer Thought Police rantings at the DUmmie FUnnies.

So are these opinions about criminalizing political thought merely the fantasies of sanity-challenged DUers who have a well-deserved reputation for crazed rantings? Unfortunately, such attitudes reach up even into the U.S. Senate. The prime example being the call by Senator Patrick Leahy and supported by fellow Senator Sheldon Whitehouse for a so-called "Truth Commission."

Leahy is claiming that his goal is not to prosecute people. Ironically, if there were ever anybody who needs investigating for improprieties, it would be Leahy himself as you can see in his Wikipedia entry:

During his tenure as Vice-Chairman of the United States Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, Leahy leaked a number of pieces of classified information, which led to his resignation from the committee. Leaks included information about a Reagan plan to topple the Gaddhafi regime in Libya, and another regarding the Iran-Contra affair. He deemed the Iran-Contra leak "careless" and accepted blame. There is a possibility that a leak of his led to the death of a covert agent in Egypt.

Despite, Leahy's disingenuous claim not to seek prosecutions, many of his fellow leftwingers are upfront about their call for such action. Of course, such prosecutions would conveniently overlook the leaking record of Leahy himself.
Whether it is called Fairness Doctrine or Truth Commission, it is all part and parcel of what the DUers are openly calling for...the suppression and criminalization of political thought. Welcome to Oceana.

Is there any Democrat who still believes in free speech?

Via News Busters:

Today on CNN Radio New York Democratic Representative Maurice Hinchey re-asserted his long held desire to reinstate the Censorship Doctrine.

From the CNN website:

"I think the Fairness Doctrine should be reinstated," Hinchey told CNNRadio. Hinchey says he could make it part of a bill he plans to introduce later this year overhauling radio and t-v ownership laws.

Bill Clinton Joins The Censorship (Fairness) Doctrine Support Group; Wants "More Balance" on Radio

Chuck Schumer. Debbie Stabenow. Tom Harkin. Anna Eshoo. Dick Durbin. Diane Feinstein.

Bill Clinton has now added his two cents.

From Michael Calderone at Politico:

Today, radio host Mario Solis Marich asked former President Bill Clinton if it was time for "some type of enforced media accountability."

"Well, you either ought to have the Fairness Doctrine or we ought to have more balance on the other side," Clinton said, "because essentially there's always been a lot of big money to support the right wing talk shows and let face it, you know, Rush Limbaugh is fairly entertaining even when he is saying things that I think are ridiculous...."

Clinton said that there needs to be either "more balance in the programs or have some opportunity for people to offer countervailing opinions." Clinton added that he didn't support repealing the Fairness Doctrine, an act done under Reagan's FCC.

What is President Clinton saying? Liberal radio sucks and no one listens so there's no money to support them; so let's just censor the right wing!

Sen. Tom Harkin: ‘there you go, we gotta get the Fairness Doctrine back in law again.’

"No government ought to be without censors & where the press is free, no one ever will." --Thomas Jefferson, letter to George Washington, September 9, 1792

Last week it was Sen. Debbie Stabenow talking to Bill Press (ironic last name, no?) Now it's Sen. Tom Harkin.

From Michael Calderone at Politico:

Just this morning, I reported that Sen. Debbie Stabenow has backed off on the idea of holding hearings for radio accountability, something she discussed last week with liberal radio host Bill Press (leading to an uproar on conservative talk radio over the Fairness Doctrine).

BILL PRESS: …And, thanks for your leadership, thanks for your good work, it’s great to have you there Senator. And, great to have you on the show. Appreciate it.

SENATOR TOM HARKIN (D-IA): Well, anytime – just let me know Bill. I love being with you, and thanks again for all you do to get the truth and the facts out there. By the way, I read your Op-Ed in the Washington Post the other day. I ripped it out, I took it into my office and said ‘there you go, we gotta get the Fairness Doctrine back in law again.’

BILL PRESS: Alright, well good for you. You know, we gotta work on that, because they are just shutting down progressive talk from one city after another. All we want is, you know, some balance on the airwaves, that’s all. You know, we’re not going to take any of the conservative voices off the airwaves, but just make sure that there are a few progressives and liberals out there, right?

SENATOR TOM HARKIN (D-IA): Exactly, and that’s why we need the fair -- that’s why we need the Fairness Doctrine back.

BILL PRESS: We’ll work on that together. Hey, thanks, Senator! Always good to talk to you.

SENATOR TOM HARKIN (D-IA): Thanks Bill, see you, bye.

BILL PRESS: There it is – you heard it here on the Bill Press Show. Senator Tom Harkin: bring back the Fairness Doctrine!

Fairness (Censorship) Doctrine Continues To Take Shape; Senators Have Had "Discussions" of the "Fairness Standard"

"No government ought to be without censors & where the press is free, no one ever will." --Thomas Jefferson, letter to George Washington, September 9, 1792

The Liberal Left is most definitely trying to censor and silence anyone who dares to question their radical socialist agenda. Why do you think Obama went after Rush?

Sen Debbie Stabenow insisted that she "think(s) it’s absolutely time to pass a standard" and indicated she had "already had some discussions with colleagues" about Fairness "Standard" hearings and that she "feel(s) like that’s gonna happen. Yep."
The Politico's Michael Calderone reported:

This morning, radio host Bill Press brought up the recent closing of liberal station Obama 1260 when speaking with Michigan Sen. Debbie Stabenow, and talked about whether there needs to be a balance to right-wing talk on the radio dial.

  • BILL PRESS: Yeah, I mean, look: They have a right to say that. They’ve got a right to express that. But, they should not be the only voices heard. So, is it time to bring back the Fairness Doctrine?

  • SENATOR DEBBIE STABENOW (D-MI): I think it’s absolutely time to pass a standard. Now, whether it’s called the Fairness Standard, whether it’s called something else — I absolutely think it’s time to be bringing accountability to the airwaves. I mean, our new president has talked rightly about accountability and transparency. You know, that we all have to step up and be responsible. And, I think in this case, there needs to be some accountability and standards put in place.

  • BILL PRESS: Can we count on you to push for some hearings in the United States Senate this year, to bring these owners in and hold them accountable?

  • SENATOR DEBBIE STABENOW (D-MI): I have already had some discussions with colleagues and, you know, I feel like that’s gonna happen. Yep.
Although Obama has been publicly opposed to reinstating the fairness doctrine, conservative radio has talked nonstop about the fear of it returning (or perhaps something like it with another name) while there's a Democrat in the White House and a Democratic majority in Congress.

News Busters reminds us:

We have been reminded that Senator Stabenow's husband, Thomas Athans, is the co-founder of the liberal TalkUSA Radio network and is now the Executive Vice-President of liberal Air America. Liberal talk radio has of course failed miserably every time it has been tried, all the while watching it's conservative counterpart's success soar.

Radio Ink has more:
Stabenow told Press that the airwaves are "dominated by one view" that "overwhelms people's opinions -- and, unfortunately, incorrectly," and said that "right-wing conservative talk hosts" are "trying to make people angry and saying all kinds of things that aren't true and so on."

Apparently it's okay that the television media (MS NBC, CNN, CBS, ABC) is "dominated by one view".

Press Secretary Gibbs Attacks Fox News For *Gasp* Asking A Question; More Censorship Of "Free Press"

Wow, just like his boss!

Guess Obama and Gibbs missed this point from one of Our Founding Fathers.

"No government ought to be without censors & where the press is free, no one ever will."
--Thomas Jefferson, letter to George Washington, September 9, 1792

What is it with these guys getting irritated at the press for trying to do its job?

Oh that's right, they're all supposed to get a "tingle " when The Bama speaks.

How dare we challege The Word!

From the Media Research Center President and News Busters Publisher Brent Bozell:

“Now we know what Barack Obama means by ‘unity’ and a nation working ‘as one.’ It means it’s his far left way and no other way. If he had his way, the President would have us all reading the New York Times and listening to left-wing Air America. He knows his only opposition to enacting a radical left-wing agenda is conservative talk radio.

“Further, there’s something eerie, Big Brother-like in Obama’s actions. He will deny it, of course, but this is an attack on Limbaugh’s and all conservatives’ right to free speech. He wants to set the stage for the Fairness Doctrine. And he’s doing it through character assassination.

“I said the day after the election that Rush Limbaugh would become public enemy #1 if the Obama administration had its way. The attack on him personally and on all of conservative talk radio generally has officially begun.”

I am signing this petition to urge members of Congress and government officials to reject any and all efforts to censor, limit, or restrain the right of conservatives to participate freely in the marketplace of ideas through the so-called “Fairness Doctrine” or other similar efforts.

Additionally, I am joining with other American citizens who want their individual Free Speech Rights defended and protected from government intrusion! Our great nation was built upon free and open discourse, and to remain a great nation this ideal must be protected and preserved at all costs.
Please note that I will be watching closely and taking action when necessary to directly combat the liberal bias of the media.
