New Video Shows U.S. Citizen Recruiting Fighters For Muslim Holy War

An English speaker with an American accent appears in a Jihadist video, laughing and talking about ambushing and killing Ethiopian and Somali soldiers.

MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) - A man who calls himself an American promotes holy war in Somalia in a video posted this week on an Islamic militant Web site. A U.S. government contractor who tracks extremist propaganda says the footage is the first to show what may be an American with a senior role in al-Shabab, a Somali group the State Department considers a terrorist organization with links to al-Qaida.


The half-hour video features an amateur English-language rap soundtrack and purports to show an operation against Ethiopian troops in Somalia. It appeared on Web sites where al-Qaida and other militant groups often post messages and videos. A caption says it was filmed on July 15, 2008.

A tall man with long dark hair and a wide smile who appears to be in his 20s and gives his nom de guerre as "Abu Mansour al-Amriki," or "the American," urges Muslims around the world to send their children to replace his group's fallen fighters.

"If you can encourage more of your children, and more of your neighbors, and anyone around you to send people ... to this jihad, it would be a great asset for us," he says.

Al-Amriki speaks English with a North American accent and reads verses from the Quran in fluent classical Arabic. He appears to be of European or possibly Arab descent but it was impossible to independently confirm his nationality or where the video was filmed.

The man appears in a scrubby rural clearing filled with short trees and dust. There are few identifying markers indicating he is in Somalia, though several of his companions appear to be Somalis.

In the Somali capital, Mogadishu, a former fighter, Mohamed Muqtar, said he had met the man more than two years ago in the Islamist stronghold of Kismayo, Somalia's third-largest town.

"This is the same man, the American man, I saw in Kismayo two years ago when I was being trained there," he said. "This man was training us how to make land mines and explosives."

Judge Orders Guantanamo Detainee Released

So, why exactly am I supposed to have sympathy for this guy?

Is it that he trained for jihad? Hung out in a cave with Osama bin Laden? Or that he was fighting U.S. soldiers on the battlefield?

Sure, release him. But not here; send his sorry ass back to Yemen where they still have a justice system which punishes the scum of the earth. I would enjoy seeing how the Islamist Extremists handle a traitorous "brother".

Thanks for the tips on terrorists, pal, but that's no reason to let you loose in America.

But, I guess none of this matters since Attorney General Eric Holder already said we would release some detainees back into the U.S, the Obama Administration has officially abandoned the terms "war on terror" and "enemy combatant" so screw it! Let these American-hating pieces of crap loose!

A federal judge on Tuesday ordered the United States to release a prisoner from the Guantanamo detention center who said he fears for his life after informing against senior al-Qaida leaders.

U.S. District Judge Ellen Segal Huvelle issued a one-page judgment ordering the release of Yasin Muhammed Basardh, a 33-year-old from Yemen. The judge didn't say in the ruling why Basardh should be let go, but she said it was explained during a closed hearing in her courtroom earlier in the day.

Basardh has begged U.S. officials not to send him back to Yemen or any other Muslim country.

"I am cooperative to the point where my cooperation with everyone has led to many people threatening my life," he said at a 2005 military hearing.

"Osama bin Laden's people know about me. They will not hesitate to kill me or anyone in my family. If they cannot kill me, they will kill at least one person from my family to get their revenge," Basardh said. At the time, he said he wanted to join the U.S. Army.

According to charges filed by the military in 2004, Basardh is a member of the Taliban who trained at a terror camp in Afghanistan that Osama bin Laden visited. The government says Basardh fought against the U.S. or its coalition partners, and fled to the Tora Bora region in November 2001, where he stayed in a cave with bin Laden.

He later left Tora Bora for Pakistan and was captured by the Pakistani military, according to the government.

Basardh told U.S. officials that before going to Afghanistan he spent time in Saudi Arabian jails for dealing drugs. He said other drug dealers who had repented persuaded him to train for jihad in Afghanistan.

11 of 18 Most Wanted Saudis Are Former Guantanamo Prisoners

The Saudi government acknowledged Wednesday that 11 men on the country's most wanted list are former Guantanamo prisoners who went through rehabilitation, raising doubts about a program intended to counter extremist religious ideology.

President Barack Obama signed an executive order closing down the prison in Cuba on Jan. 22 — his second day in office — leaving nations scrambling over what to do with a potential flood of released detainees.

Some 133 of Guantanamo's over 700 inmates were Saudi, according to Interior Ministry spokesman Gen. Mansour al-Turki, and 117 have returned to Saudi Arabia and been through rehabilitation programs.

From Long War Journal has more of these "rehabilitated jihadists" including that one of the terrorists on the list operates a major al Qaeda network on Iranian soil.
