Another small victory, but something...

• On Tuesday evening the House Rules Committee stripped two provisions from the stimulus package: the family planning money that President Obama personally lobbied Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., to remove yesterday, and the $200 million to refurbish the National Mall.
  
• The move was made amidst a torrent of GOP criticism about wasteful or non-stimulative spending in the bill, including those two projects, as the president attempts to woo House GOPers.

Yesterday, Robert Peter Griffin Gibbs defended the inclusion of the $200 million National Mall Revitalization Fund in the bill, saying,

• "when we met on the first day of our presidency, we were on the Mall. Right? 1.8 million people stood on the Mall, which happens to be the most visited national park that we have. Right? I think that you can make a very credible case and the economic team has, that reconditioning the National Mall will create jobs. Probably through spending in small businesses."

Now if we can just get rid of that whole $355 Million for "STD Education"... again, how does talking to kids about Chlamydia or The Clap stimulate the economy? Good idea? Maybe. Stimulus? Definitely not.

And before any of you Leftist Socialists say anything, keep this in mind. The above mentioned $355 Million will go to the CDC. Here is list of how the CDC has used tax payer money in the past:

A transgender beauty pageant in San Francisco that advertised available HIV testing.

Funded an event called “Men for Hire” put on by the Stop AIDS Project in San Francisco at which homosexual men learned “seven guidelines for safe and friendly relations with escorts.” The speaker, Joseph Itiel, encouraged attendees to hire male prostitutes as a “safe-sex” practice.

Funded an event, also put on by the Stop AIDS Project, called “Got Love? – Flirt/Date/Score” that taught participants how “to flirt with greater finesse.”

Funded events called “Booty Call” and “Great Sex” put on by an organization that received $698,000 in government funds.

Gave $1.6 million to an organization that hired a homosexual porn star to appear at an event in a towel and cowboy boots to promote “safe-sex.”

Why is it that every time some of the pork gets exposed from the "No Pork" Economic Spending and Un-recovery Bill it gets removed?

Geithner Picks Lobbyist As Top Aide Despite New Rules to Crack Down On Lobbyists, Obama Ethics Order Proves To Be Hoax Yet Again!

Twice in one week? One week and The President has blatantly lied and deceived twice (that we know about for certain.)

Yesterday, Treasury Secretary (and tax cheat) Timothy Geithner announced new anti-lobbyist bailout restraints.

Under orders to move quickly on the faltering economy, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner unveiled new rules Tuesday to limit special-interest influence involving the $700 billion financial rescue program. The new rules are designed to crack down on lobbyist influence over the rescue program. The Obama administration says they go farther than the lobbying rules imposed by the Bush administration. The new rules are aimed at making sure political influence is not a factor in awarding rescue money.

Then he picked one as his top aide. Politico reports:

Newly installed Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner issued new rules Tuesday restricting contacts with lobbyists – and then hired one to be his top aide. Mark Patterson, a former advocate for Goldman Sachs, will serve as chief of staff to Geithner as the Treasury Department revamps the Wall Street bailout program that sent an infusion of cash to his former employer. Patterson’s appointment marks the second time in President Barack Obama’s first week in office that the administration has had to explain how it’s complying with its own ethics rules as it hires a bevy of Washington insiders for administration jobs.

“He brings significant expertise to the job of chief of staff and has agreed to a far-reaching ethics pledge to remove any hint of a conflict of interest,” a Treasury spokesperson added.

Patterson was a registered lobbyist for Goldman Sachs from 2005 until April of 2008. Lobbying disclosure forms suggest he represented the financial giant on a wide array of issues, including visas, tax credits for cellulosic ethanol and an Indian gaming facility in New York state.

Wednesday afternoon, Press Secretary Robert Peter Griffin Gibbs, fumbling through another press conference (that will not be posted on the new and improved transparent White House .gov) said that Patterson could not be a lobbyist because is not a registered lobbyist so there is no issue with the pick.

Yet, Mr. Gibbs, Patterson was a registered lobbyist just 9 months ago.

Let us remind Mr. Gibbs, Mr. Geithner and Mr. Obama what his "ethics order" stated.

"As a condition, and in consideration, of my employment in the United States Government in a position invested with the public trust, I commit myself to the following obligations, which I understand are binding on me and are enforceable under law:

"3. Revolving Door Ban Lobbyists Entering Government. If I was a registered lobbyist within the 2 years before the date of my appointment, in addition to abiding by the limitations of paragraph 2, I will not for a period of 2 years after the date of my appointment:
(a) participate in any particular matter on which I lobbied within the 2 years before the date of my appointment;
(b) participate in the specific issue area in which that particular matter falls; or
(c) seek or accept employment with any executive agency that I lobbied within the 2 years before the date of my appointment.

VP Joe Biden Apologizes to Chief Justic For Gaffe, Obama Did Not Find It Funny

As we mentioned last week, The President does not find The Vice President as amusing as the rest of us.

Vice President Biden made his first -- and probably not last -- apology for a joke gone bad, reportedly calling Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts to offer a "mea culpa" for cracking wise about Roberts' flubbing the oath of office during President Obama's inauguration.

You know the joke that Vice President Biden told last week? The one where he publicly made fun of Chief Justice John Roberts? The one that President Obama didn’t laugh at?

Yeah, that one.


Well, the vice president wanted to smooth things over with Justice Roberts so he called him on the phone and apologized. (Perhaps he would have emailed him but the White House email system blew up).

Details of the conversation are slight.
“They spoke and had a good conversation,” a press aide told CNN.

Congressman Slams Rush Limbaugh... And Then Apologizes... Rush 2, Government 0.

Yesterday, Rep. Phil Gingrey sounded off on Rush Limbaugh for criticizing President Obama and criticizing the GOP Leadership in Congress.

In an interview with Politico Tuesday.

“I think that our leadership, Mitch McConnell and John Boehner, are taking the right approach,” Gingrey said. “I mean, it’s easy if you’re Sean Hannity or Rush Limbaugh or even sometimes Newt Gingrich to stand back and throw bricks. You don’t have to try to do what’s best for your people and your party. You know you’re just on these talk shows and you’re living well and plus you stir up a bit of controversy and gin the base and that sort of that thing. But when it comes to true leadership, not that these people couldn’t be or wouldn’t be good leaders, they’re not in that position of John Boehner or Mitch McConnell."

Asked to respond to Gingrey, Limbaugh, in an email to Politico, wrote: “I'm sure he is doing his best but it does not appear to be good enough. He may not have noticed that the number of Republican colleagues he has in the House has dwindled. And they will dwindle more if he and his friends don't show more leadership and effectiveness in battling the most left-wing agenda in modern history. And they won't continue to lose because of me, but because of their relationship with the grassroots, which is hurting. Conservatives want leadership from those who claim to represent them. And we'll know it when we see it.”

Today, Gingrey apologized.


Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-Ga.) apologized Wednesday to “my fellow conservatives” for comments critical of talk-radio host Rush Limbaugh – saying he sees “eye-to-eye” with Limbaugh and that his remarks defending House Republican leadership came across more harshly than intended.

He also took issue with a headline on a Politico story about his comments, saying he never told Limbaugh to “back off,” as the headline read. “I regret and apologize for the fact that my comments have offended and upset my fellow conservatives—that was not my intent,” Gingrey said in a statement. “I am also sorry to see that my comments in defense of our Republican Leadership read much harsher than they actually were intended, but I recognize it is my responsibility to clarify my own comments.”

This must be why President Obama is attacking Rush Limbaugh and not Phil Gingrey.

We can't fault Gingrey for being jealous though.
