It took only weeks for the notoriously slow Congress to pass the $787 billion economic stimulus package. President Barack Obama signed it into law less than one month into his presidency.

So when should most people hope to start seeing the benefits of tax cuts in it? By April 1, according to the president.

Oh my gosh! Obama has already improved the efficiency of Congress! He's that good!

"Never before in our history has a tax cut taken effect faster or gone to so many hardworking Americans," Obama said Saturday in his weekly radio and Internet address.

The president said his signature two-year "Making Work Pay" tax break will affect 95 percent of working families, and, in six weeks' time, a typical family will start taking home at least $65 more every month.

Thanks boss! $13 a week! Lotta Money! But he doesn't really want you to actually go to work.

Taxpayers won't get a separate check mailed to them like many did with last year's one-time payment designed by the Bush administration to help boost the economy.

Instead, Obama's credit — up to $400 credit for individuals and up to $800 credit for married couples — is to be doled out through the rest of the year through paychecks. Most workers are to see about a $13 per week increase in their take-home pay. In 2010, the credit would be about $7.70 a week, if it is spread over the entire year.

$7.70 a week! Enjoy! Of course, don't forget that you don't actually have to pay taxes to get a "tax cut"!

People who do not earn enough money to owe income taxes are eligible for the credit, an attempt to offset the payroll taxes they pay.

Michelle Obama On Tax Breaks, $400 Is Greater than $600

Yesterday we learned that President Obama's landmark "Making Work Pay" legislation in the CRAPulus bill will give every working adult $400... spread out over time to give each of a whopping $8 more per week.

Last year, we each got a one time check for $600. You don't need to be an economist to realize that $600 in one shot will do more to "jolt" an economy than $8/week.

Yes, I realize the Bush tax cuts were no panacea for the economic woes this country now faces, but let's at least be consistent in our rhetoric, you know?

Michelle Obama didn't think very much of President Bush's Economic Stimulus checks last year. The snobby elitist showed her true colors then, and how out of touch with America the Obamas really are.

The Washington Times reported last July:

Mrs. Obama said in Pontiac, Michigan, Wednesday that if her husband is elected he will offer more than a "quick fix" on the economy.

"You're getting $600 - what can you do with that? Not to be ungrateful or anything, but maybe it pays down a bill, but it doesn't pay down every bill every month," she said. "The short-term quick fix kinda stuff sounds good, and it may even feel good that first month when you get that check, and then you go out and you buy a pair of earrings."

Maybe $600 isn't much to the First Lady, but it's a lot to many people.

$8/week won't do much good for anyone.

"Making Work Pay" was a cornerstone of the Obama Presidential Campaign. In fact, the plan was so important to the President that he dispatched Rahmbo to Capitol Hill for last night's stealth "dead of the night" compromise meetings.

Well, Making Work Pay made the final cut. Instead of the $500/individual $1000/married couple tax cut for 95% or working Americans was reduced to $400/$800 respectively. The reduction in the amount is not important.

This is what's important. The Big Campaign Promise!
